Disgust

We don't need terrorists to threaten us. Apparently, given enough rope, we will hang ourselves.

The recent footage of New Orleans is enough to make one ashamed to be even remotely affiliated with the human race. It is so sad that, despite our verbalized intentions since 9/11, we are not united. We are not helpful to one another. Desperation drives us to return to animal survival instincts, which are an every-man-for-himself mentality.

Selfishly, I am so glad that this is not any closer to my home. If my husband had to risk his life to protect people like those on the news, I would be sick with fear.

We're seeing people under pressure, and they are either at their worst or at their best. I feel disgusted as well. Especially with the shooting at the rescue workers. What is that supposed to accomplish, exactly?

There's also alot of people that have been addicted to substances that are now having to quit, not by choice, cold turkey. It doesn't seem to be helping the situation any.

am - i was just thinking about drugs this morning. i wouldn't be surprised if these people could get their hands on some heroin or crack, but still can't get clean water.

either way, it makes for a desperate situation.

i agree that the turmoil in New Orleans is heart-wrenching. but i also know that there are a few who are dedicated to helping those in need. did you see the news last night, and there was ONE nurse in the entire superdome, and she was trying to help them as much as she could? part of me wishes that i could be down there right now, to help, and the rest of me is SO THANKFUL that i'm not there, and that i can help those who have already been relocated to Dallas.

I agree completely - human nature at it's basest and at it's best is still broken. I never thought about those going through withdrawl - scary thought.

We are also seeing the media at work. Showing all the looters and others losing their minds in fear and anger over their losses.

I completely agree with Amstaff re: drugs. I'm certain many were dealing with not getting their "fix".
