Who did that???

Who decided that licorice was a fruit, so that when I am eating a healthy snack of jelly beans, and enjoying all the fruity goodness, and I bite into a licorice jelly bean, my entire morning is ruined because that bite tasted like bitter tar???

That's how they get ya. Ruin your nutrition ambition with black tar that only your mother would eat.

I suppose it would be being overly pedantic of me to remark that licorice flavoring originally came from a plant (the root of Glycirrhiza maxima, IIRC), and therefore, technically, has a vegetable source? So, even if it's not technically a fruit, it does have a plant origin.

Of course, by that arguement, chocolate - coming FROM a fruit of a tree - would be even more eligible for inclusion in a bag of "fruit" jelly beans - but you almost never see chocolate jelly beans.
